I'm going through mountain withdrawals.

 It legit feels like the transfer left just as soon as it came. Wow. So a lot has happened! First off, trio. We've been in a trio with Hermana Estrada for the last week covering two areas. It's been crazy but super fun to be able to spend time with these two chicas! We were able to go to activities and a baptism of our cute member friend Eduardito. But over all I feel like we've been spending most of our time running around with backpacks and food and riding the bus to the four corners of the earth.

     But yeah, like I said, TRANSFERS! There have been some big changes. I will be going to the island Tenerife to serve in San Cristóbal de la Laguna. I'm pretty sure it's the island where Christopher Columbus made a pit stop just before going to the Americas. I'm so excited! I've been told it's the greenest part of the island and that there are some killer hikes. Or in other words, the Lord is sending me to die in paradise. As far as my new companion goes, I won't find out until tomorrow because.... I'M TRAINING! I'm too excited! Also a little nervous because I'm training her in an area that I don't even know but hey! You live and you learn. :) 

     As I've been reflecting on my time here in B9 Carabanchel all I can be is grateful. These have legit been the most fulfilling and difficult transfers of the mission. I've learned and grown in ways I didn't even think were possible before the mission. I am sad to say goodbye to my family here but I know it's my time to go. I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend with Sandra, Isa Mar, Antonia, Alexandra and all the other incredible friends I've made here. I'm grateful for all I've learned from Hermana Snyder and Hermana Ibáñez. It's truly been quite the adventure. 

     I don't know if I mentioned how we met Antonia but I think it's a good story and it's strengthened my testimony of diligence and the promise that "No effort is wasted." Hermana Snyder and I found her long ago, my first transfer here. To this day I still don't remember the actual initial conversation or really anything about our first encounter. My guess is that Hermana Snyder commented on her jewelry or clothing. Anyway I saw her name and number, next to it I wrote "CALL HER" so I figured she was pretty important. I called her a few times and every time she would tell me that it would be better to call the next week or later. We found her in the beginning of March and I didn't get to meet with her until the middle of June. She canceled once or twice before we were finally able to meet. Since we've started meeting p, she's been coming to church, praying, reading the BOM and truly learning how to follow the Savior. I didn't think I could do much in just one transfer and there were times I thought I wasn't making a difference.  It when I saw her yesterday with her lower lip trembling and tears in her eyes I knew that I had been doing exactly what the Lord needed me to do. I'm grateful for her and for what she's taught me. Im also grateful for Hermana Snyder and all the other missionaries that served here before me.

     Anyway I feel like I'm just rambling my life in an email so I should probably stop and enjoy these last moments with my pineapple friends.

Buenos días! 

Que tal todo!? I hope all of you are doing so well and enjoying your little taste of summer! Can I just say time goes by ssooooooo quick. I feel like I just got here in Barrio 9 (Carabanchel) but I've already been here for three transfers (18 weeks). Today I had to say goodbye to one of my dearest companions and friends. Hermana Snyder is such an incredible missionary and I'm grateful everyday that I've had the opportunity to serve with her here in Carabanchel. I've learned so much with her these last three transfers and I wouldn't change it for anything. 

     Now I'm sitting here in Chamartin waiting for my new comp... drumroll please *insert my flailing my arms and legs around slapping and kicking everything in reach, including Hermana Tang, (sorry Hermana Tang)* HERMANA IBÁÑEZ!!! Whooooo whooooo whiooo whooo whooooooottttt!!! The crowd goes wild children are crying, chavales are screaming and everyone's so excited to welcome this Bolivian model with open arms and lots of food *shout out to all the good food here👌* I'm actually pretty excited, I haven't had a native companion yet so I'm really looking forward to learning from her. We have a super busy and exciting transfer ahead of us, I'm excited to see what the Lord has in store.

     Well this week was a roller coaster, well this whole transfer has been haha but it's been incredible. On Tuesday we had an awesome visit from our 70 friend Elder Gay. He served here in the Spain Madrid mission 40 years ago. It was rewarding to take a step back and look at the mission in his eyes. He explained that there was not even a church building when he served here, they held sacrament meeting in the kitchen of their small shared Piso and had to ask the Jehovah Witnesses to use their baptismal font. He spoke to us about how missionary work is a revelatory work and how we can receive that revelation. It was really refreshing and eye opening and I am already finding the mission so much more rewarding as I've been applying what I've learned.

     Right after the visit of Elder Gay I went on an intercambio with my cute friend Hermana Jarman! Ah I just love her. We taught an interesting and very funny guy from New Zealand and organized a mission week for the ward in Leganes. She's such a cutie and I love spending time with her!

     The rest of this week was legit a blur. We taught Sandra again and we are going to keep meeting with her, thank you for all the prayers in her behalf! Poco a poco. We also met with a new friend JAS(YSA) Armando, he even came to the ward JAS activity we had yesterday and is starting to get  involved. Then on Saturday we met with our new friend Isa Mar!! She is so great and I look forward to all the lessons to come with her :)

     All in all things are looking pretty up here in B9. I'm going to miss Hermana Snyder a lot #shesfamilynow but I know she and I are where we are suppose to be. I'm so grateful for this last transfer and can't wait to start running into this one. I hope you all are doing fantastic and that your week is full of stories and memories that you can tell me to, Oreos :)

¡Buenos días queridos míos!

What a week! This transfer is just flying! Anyway, last week I talked about the activity we had and how it was a huge success... that is until the after effects. One of the sauces wasn't prepared properly and the whole ward got sick who ate it. Luckily I declined the kind offer to smother my potatoes in it, but there were many others who unfortunately didn't, including many new friends and my companion. (When I say "friends" I am usually referring to people we have plans to meet with teach them about Christ and His church) So the start of the week was a little rough in that aspect. But Hermana Snyder has been strong and the members have allowed her to choose her portion of food #blessings 

On Monday we bid farewell to our cute friend Cecilia, she no longer lives in our area and has plans to move back to her country if she doesn't find a job in the next week. The lesson was centered completely in Christ and His Atonement. I'm so grateful for the blessing it is to have a testimony that I know Christ knows exactly what I'm going through. He knows how to help me and make me stronger than I am. He has lead me and guided me through His perfect example, revelation and through His faithful servants. I'm grateful for His Grace, patience and love for each and every one of us

In my last email I talked about our friend Evelyn, well we were able to meet with her again this week and she is incredible. When we met with her last week we were on intercambios with the Barrio 3 Hermanas, I was with Hermana Leong and Christensen. I feel like I learned so much from that intercambio about faith, patience, diligence and just using common sense. So I said we found her in the street again and set up an appointment for Friday. Hermana Snyder and I were kind of running around because we had a lunch appointment and then needed to pick up the B3 Hermanas we had the lesson written down for 4:30 but because of all the craziness, we got there a little late. We rang her doorbell (the little box outside the gate of the apartment building) no answer. We rang it again 2 more times and I started to feel a little discouraged. I then tried calling her and her cousin who wanted to meet with us as well. Neither of them answer. I began to think, "Are they even interested? Why do they never answer us?" The three of us (Hermana Leong, Christensen and I) sat down to make a plan. We figured we should probably just leave when Hermana Leong offered to say a prayer. In her cute broken Spanish plea, she helped Heavenly Father understand our situation. She also explained how important it was for us to teach Evelyn so that she too could have the truth and happiness that the gospel brings, we also wanted to give her a little jar of goodies we made for her birthday. As she closed, we decided not to give up and at least drop off the goodies on her doorstep.(not as easy as it sounds) 

Someone went to the gate and we were able to get in with them to wait outside the actual apartment building. We went to the entrance and to our happy surprise someone was exiting and allowed us to enter. We then hiked up the 4 flights of stairs to her door we were placing the jar of goodies on her place-mat when the phone starts to ring. I answer and it's Evelyn! She explained that she was taking a nap and asked if we were close I told her we were at her door mat an she opened the door. 

We were able to teach her in unity about he importance of prayer, reading the Book of Mormon and coming to church. It was perfect and I felt pretty good, we taught her the lesson, all is well. But instead of closing Hermana Christensen decided to teach me a lesson. She turned to Evelyn, looked her straight in the eyes and asked her, "Evelyn, why did you decide to meet with us?" Evelyn really opened up as Hermana Christensen continued to ask her questions and truly listen to her response.

At times I get so caught up with the to-do lists that I forget even why we have them. I wasn't there to teach a lesson I was there to teach Evelyn. Hermana Christensen recognized that and helped me to recognize that as well. I'm so grateful for her example and for the opportunity I have to work with her, Hermana Leong and so many other incredible, faithful individuals.

This week we went on two other intercambios back to back. I worked with Hermana Storheim from Grand Junction and Hermana Webster again from Houston. They are both just fantastic sisters and it was such a blessing to work with the two of them. 

I'm learning so much everyday. I am so grateful for the mission. It's nothing I ever imagined it to be but it's more amazing than I could have ever hoped for it to be. I'm so grateful for Hermana Snyder, her example to me and her 100% dedication to serving the Lord. Every week we have our ups and downs but the ups always out shine the downs. I wouldn't trade the time I have here for the world.

Hello fam!

     Wow I can't believe it's only been like 4 days since I've written. This week has been really good :) I got to see my cute sister at the CCM (shout out to you Brook) we had intercambios with the sisters from Barrio 3, last Sunday I got to see my favorite family (hi mom) and to end the week we had an awesome cultural talent show for the Relief Society and my ward killed it they were so great! 

     So Sandra is on vacation right now in Amsterdam. We will see how she is doing on Wednesday :) the lesson we had with her last week went really well and we'll see how we can help her :) 

It was so great to be with Brooklyn on Wednesday. After going to the temple (Hna Snyder and I), we went to the CCM and ate lunch with her :) it was nice to just sit down and relax instead of having another frantic re encounter. She's such a light and is going to be a fantastic missionary in Malaga. 

     So for intercambios I went with Hermana Christensen. She is one of the best. She's so focused and really works so hard. She is an example to me and I look forward to continue to serve with her. Right now she's serving with Hermana Tang and Hermana Leong :) Hermana Tang is from Malasia and Hermana Leong is from China just north of Hong Kong. She said she even knew Sister Barbara Woodruff!! (Shout out) So cool! Small world :) Anyway while walking around and talking to people we stopped and talked to a college kid from Madrid, believe it or not we talk to more foreigners than locals, and it was really cool. We are hopefully meeting with him this weekend, I'll let you know if anything cool comes if it.

     Yesterday was a well needed Sunday. I'm so grateful for the strength and animo that comes with partaking of the Sacrament and renewing my covenants with my Heavenly Father. I'm grateful for clean slates and being better today than I was yesterday. I feel refreshed and ready to take on this next week.

     Today we had interviews with President Pack in the  mission home. I really have been blessed with the best mission president. He and Hermana Pack have helped me so much in my mission and I'm so grateful for them :) we also got to spend some time with Hermana Snyder's trainer Hermana Freestone and went to Sol. All I can be is grateful, I really can't complain.

Rainy good week

Well I don't have any time left to write but a ton has happened since last week...

First things first, Sandra's Baptism. It didn't happen. We met up on Wednesday and she told us that she was having doubts about her life and that she didn't feel ready to make all the changes necessary in her life to enter into a covenant with God. 

     Selfishly, I never felt so crushed. I was completely heartbroken. I love her so much and I know how much this Gospel truly will bless her. But we didn't give up. We fasted and met with her again on Thursday and she told us she would reconsider and tell us her decision on Friday, the night before the baptism. As we ended the lesson she told us of her decision to not be baptized. It was really hard to be strong but I kept on smiling. I wanted to make sure she knew how much I love her and of the joy of the gospel. We walked all the way to the Metro stop together and talked the whole time. The second she was out of view the tears wouldn't stop flowing. Hermana Snyder and I just walked in silence in the rain to the church until we decided it would probably be a good idea to inform all the members about the cancelation. 

     The next day was difficult but we stayed positive and creative, coming up with different ways to work with the members and find new investigators. We tried calling Sandra and sent her a text but didn't get a response.  We wanted to keep meeting with and help her learn more so that one day she will be able to take that step. I didn't know what to do. I'd never felt so heartbroken. All I could do was pray. I prayed a lot. We were worried a little about what would happen for church. One of the members told us that she had told her that she didn't plan on coming due to embarrassment. I tried calling her one last time as we started singing the opening hymn, she answered.

     As we saw her walk into the chapel to sit with us I thought of the words of Alma, "20 And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!" Everything will be okay. I feel at peace and full of love toward her and the work. This week has been really difficult, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. She stayed for each hour even though she was also a little sick.

      We met with her again on Tuesday and she wants to continue to work with us. I'm so grateful for her humility and faith. Although now wasn't her time I know she will be baptized one day.

3rd time's a charm

Happy May!

WOW. All I can say is that time is FLYING! Can you believe it's already May 2017!? I can't. But hey all is well! Like I mentioned in my last email transfers are today, Hermana Snyder and I are staying together another 6 weeks then I get to toss her on the plane to the US of A. I'm so grateful that we get to be together, she is such a blessing.

This week was a lot more tranquilo than last week. We met with our cute friend Sandra a few times and she is well on track to being baptized in the next few weeks. We are all very excited :) the other day after teaching her some of the commandments she even commented, "So does our church have dress standards?" She has so much faith and truly wants to repent. She is grateful to learn the commandments and strives to obey them. She is incredible.

We also got to meet with our friend Cecilia. She goes home next month so we won't be baptizing her here, but she is doing well and has desires to take that step. We will do all that we can to help her progress and to help her family back at home have the Gospel. We teach her in the home of an adorable older Spanish lady named Pepita. Pepita grew up not knowing the truth of the gospel and is too old to grasp it right now. Every time we go we start and end the lesson with a hymn. It's beautiful how the hymns truly invite the spirit. It's interesting how the spirit changes everything in their home. With it, Pepita turns into a completely different person, so much happier and with so much more energy. I'm so grateful for the blessings of the gospel, it really does make a difference.

This week we were also blessed to meet and get to know a lot of the members here. We were invited to eat with a family from Utah and let me just say, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches never tasted so good. We got to share a message with them in english. It was really different but really good! They are doing all they can to help Zion grow here as well. The other day they made cookies for their neighbors and were invited to their home. Although it's simple and is often over looked it's so important that we friendship those around us. As we do so we can give them an opportunity to see how the gospel truly can bless us. 

I don't really have much more to say, but I love being a missionary! The church is true! I'm so grateful to be a part of it. I hope you are all having a great week! Hello to all my friends!

So we have a standard in the mission to have 25 contacts (have meaningful conversations with people) everyday for each missionary. When I was in Villalba it was great and came pretty easy I'd just go up so some random person tell them a little about me and the gospel, they'd either say no or give me their number and I'd move on to the next random person. Anyway, I don't know why but I hit a little wall here when I came to Carabanchel. I still usually get it but it's been more difficult. I've been really working on the quality of my contacts and it's really been paying off. We have been finding incredible people and the Lord has continued to bless us in-spite of my short comings. All I can be is grateful for his grace and his love.

One of these contacts name just happened to be Maria. We made a smoother approach by asking her for directions. She kindly looked it up on her phone for us and walked with us a little ways up the road. As we were walking and getting to know her a motorcyclist started the motor and reved the engine. We were pretty close, shocked Maria and she tripped over a loose brick in the road. It was actually a pretty bad fall and kind of scary. We helped her up and walked her to a bench to calm her down. Hermana Snyder started talking about her family and the conversation lead to our beliefs and the Book of Mormon. She told us how she was currently in a religious crisis and didn't really trust churches. We gifted her a Book of Mormon and invited her to learn more. I don't know where it will go but I know that everything happens for a reason. The Lord provided us a way to serve and to sincerely share our testimonies in a more natural setting. It was just the kind of experience I needed to motivate me to continue to talk with everyone.

We also met with Mari Luz this week. She is a woman of incredible faith. We had the opportunity to fast with her on Sunday that she will be able to go to church every Sunday and keep the Sabbath day holy, we are meeting with her again on Wednesday. She is doing really well and is excited to hear the prophet speak on Saturday.

Well, all in all this week has had a lot of ups an downs but it definitely ended on a high note. I'm so grateful to be a missionary here in Madrid Spain. I know it's where the Lord wants me to be and that he is preparing the people here to receive his Gospel. I hope you all have a wonderful week and that you have a fantastic conference weekend!

Transfers week! But nothing changed, our elder friend from our district is leaving but Hermana Snyder and I are staying together! We honestly weren't expecting it at all but we are so so SOO excited to be serving together another transfer here in Carabanchel. We have a few baptisms scheduled and we are looking forward to the miracles that the Lord has in store for us.

One of our sweet miracles is Mari Luz! She is progressing so well and has a baptismal service set up for her in April. It's really incredible the faith that the people have here. Many of the people we meet with move here for work to send money back to their families. I've only been here for a year and I miss my family a lot. I couldn't even begin to imagine living 15 or 20 years hundreds of miles away from my favorite people. But here they do it. They truly love their families and sacrifice a lot for them.

This week we really have been trying to meet more with the members in our area. So on Sunday we passed around a calendar for people to sign up to feed us. They are religious when it comes to feeding us and they feed us a ton. But hey! I'm not complaining! We got to eat food and get to know people from Bolivia, Peru, Russia and Ecuador. Our best friend Grace also took us out for an American burger.

This week we also had to say so-long-for-now to a few of our friends. It was really sad and hard but the Lord has called us to search the elect. We extend the invitation and it's their choice to accept it or not.  

I'm so grateful to be a missionary! I know that this is the Lords work and that This is His Gospel. We've had our tough times this week but I know that all will be made right as we do our best and PRAY!

Carabanchel District March 2017

Miracles

This week was too fast. So here's the important parts (:

We had intercambios with the sisters from Hermana Quispe and Hermana
Vannucci! They are my favorite! Hermana Quispe is from Peru and even
taught me how to make rice the Peruvian way. We learned so much
together and I'm so grateful for her!

   The last intercambio we had, Hermana Webster and I contacted a cute
lady named Lacy, well we met on Saturday for the first time and she
brought a friend! We taught them the restoration. The spirit was so
powerful, so when Hermana Snyder started reciting the first vision
Lacy and I couldn't help but cry. She is so prepared. She and her
friend Yedira both came to church on Sunday and they have both
accepted a baptismal date.

   I'm so so grateful for this gospel! I"m so grateful for the
opportunity I have to share it with the people here in Spain.

   I hope you all have a really great week! Pray for miracles and
miracles will come.

        Well this week has been awesome. It started off with the most perfect pday which consisted of having a picnic in a grove of trees in our area (Casa Campo) and eating oreos with Peanut butter. (One of the members here went to Costco and bought legit American Peanut butter #blessings)

We also had another INTERCAMBIO! Whoot whoot!!! I love Intercambios! I always learn new things from all the sisters that I serve with. This time I got to serve with Hermana Webster!!! Whooot!! She is a cute sass from Texas! She's legit the most real person I've ever met when we go contacting. She just stops people and is like, "Hey man, what's up!?" Then goes getting to know them and explains how awesome Christ is and we have their number. She's solid. Hermana Snyder was her trainer so her fantasticness doesn't surprise me too much, what can I say, my comp is the best.

We've been finding really awesome people. (: and on Saturday we were able to meet with an awesome family form Peru! We are teaching them English and are starting to teach them the gospel as well. We are really excited to help them progress as a family. (: 

This week we also got to teach Mari Luz! We've been meeting with Mari Luz for a few weeks now but because of work and transportation situations she hasn't been able to come to church. But this week, SHE CAME! Miracles. She was so happy that she was finally able to come, and we are too! (: 

Today we are going on a little hike with my best friend Alexandra. We made her a PB&J and are wearing pants (: Life is really good.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity I have to serve the Lord here in Carabanchel! I know this is where the Lord wants me to be and I've been learning a TON! I know this church is true with all my heart and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.

Mission tour and Intercambios

Did January and February just fly or what? I can't believe we are already in March this week. CRAZY!

This week was super loco.... we had a mission tour from Elder Soares of the 70. Wow. He and his wife are spiritual beacons. They are absolutely incredible and I learned so much from their words and their example. They focused the importance of planning, serious goal setting, Companionship study, and what it means to be a representative of Christ. I wrote all about it in my journal but if you want to know more about it just ask me (: 

With them coming down we had TWO intercambios (I guess they're called exchanges in english...) anyway its when other sister missionaries in our zone come and stay with us for 24 hours. We then split up the two companionships and learn, study, plan, practice and teach with the other sister. The first intercambio I had was with Hermana Hinton from Colorado! She is my favorite. We were in Galicia (north western Spain) together for 6 months and are now again serving pretty close to each other. She finishes her mission here in Spain in 3 weeks so I honestly learned so much more from her than I'm sure she learned from me. While on the intercambio we go to take some reactivated members to the temple to do baptisms. We didn't get to go in but we waited outside the temple with Camila and worked on Personal Progress together. (I love personal progress! I'm so excited to work on it with you and Lindsey when I get home Libby! You're getting so old! I love you!!!XOXOX)

It was kinda of crazy but Hermana Hinton already knows my area so we didn't get lost (: they left around 2ish on Thursday and around 4 our friends (sister missionary friends) form VIGO came and stayed with us! I got to spend the evening with Hermana Jimenez (from Ecuador) and Hermana Snyder (my actual comp) got to serve with Hermana Duffin!! (Hermana Duffin and I are pals from the MTC, she's my hero and has been a huge support to me on the mish) It was awesome. Hermana Jimenez also finishes the mission in 3 weeks and knows the area better than I do so it was also really successful I learned a lot from her as well (:

The Vigo hermanas stayed with us because we had a meeting with Elder Soares for the mission leaders in presidents home on Friday. It was so great to see all the missionaries I'd served with before working together to know how to lead the mission. We made lots of great goals and we are going to keep them. Hermana Snyder and I felt kind of out of place at first because we are both brand new sister training leaders. Hermana Snyder would just turn and look at me and say that she didn't know why she was there. But she is incredible and contributed a lot. A lot of her input was really helpful for the discussions we had. I have the best companion. She's such a great example to me and I am grateful to be working so closely with her so i can learn even more from her example. #blessed

The more I spend on the mission the more I am so grateful for the restored gospel. We are teaching a girl who has been meeting with the Jehovah's Witnesses. I have a lot of respect for them they work really hard to follow the Bible and live high eternal standards. There are a lot of other people here in Spain that live their lives to the best of their abilities to find eternal happiness. And many people have asked me, "Why does it matter what religion I live if I just follow Christ the best I can?" It's a good question. What really are they missing out on? 

I'm so grateful for the knowledge we have that God is our father. He loves us and cares for us. He wants us to learn and progress in this life. For this reason He has given us His Gospel through living prophets. To give us exact instruction in our lives to know how to follow Christ with exactness. Of course we are not perfect but I promise that as we follow the guidance the prophets give us we will be able to achieve the greatest level of happiness this life has to offer. God has given men His power and authority to lead us and guide us in this world of confusion that is only worsening. We don't have to walk in darkness. We don't need to play guessing games. Through His prophets God has shown us the path that leads to happiness. All we need to do is follow it.

I'm so grateful to be a missionary here in Spain Madrid. (I'm sure Malaga is incredible too Brook) I know it's exactly where I need to be to do what I need to do and learn how to become the person I need to become.
