I'm not crying, you're crying. Goodbye Vigo.

Hello all!

Right now I am siting on a train to MADRID! Too pumped. I´ll be serving in Villalba with Hermana Phillips! I don´t have a picture of her yet but she´s in the same group as Hermana Davis I will be sure to tell you all about her and Villalba next week ;)

Well I'm super sorry I didn't even write a big email last week, we went to the islands again for our last P-day together, it was lovely and honestly so nice not having to stress about writing (sorry not sorry) So these past few weeks have literally been a blur, so I'll just tell you what I remember.

Last week we had our final lesson with our Recent Convert Pedro! Pedro is my favorite. I sure did not cry, nope, and he didn't either. Well actually we were all crying. The spirit was so powerful. We reviewed the baptismal covenant and he bore his testimony of Jesus Christ. This Gospel really has completely changed his life. He is a light to me and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to see his conversion process. I reread over his teaching record. When the missionaries found him he was a grumpy middle aged man who didn't really believe anything, but now you'll never find him without a smile on his face and the light of Christ in his eyes. 

Sometimes when we contact in the street people will ask us, "Do people actually listen to you? Do people actually change?" I love when they ask and I can proudly state, "Yes!" There really are people out there who are ready and looking to receive the Gospel. It may be your neighbor, it may be a family member, it may be one of your closest friends. But sometimes they don't know what they are looking for, and that's why we all need to open our mouths and share what we know. I invite you all in some way shape of form, to do as President Monson instructed and share a part of the plan of Salvation with someone you know. Everyone has questions and we have the answers.

Well the train ride is over and we are going to go be productive. My new comp is Hermana Phillips and she is legit the cutest. 

I'm so grateful for the opportunity I had to serve in Vigo it really is like home to me and I look forward to the day I can visit them again :) I learned so much in. Vigo, I'm so grateful for Hermana Schriever and Hermana Davis they made each day a wonderful day, even when they weren't so wonderful. I'm so excited to meet my cute new family :)

This week has been kinda slow but still really good! I'm so grateful for Hermana Davis, she keeps me encouraged. It's crazy to think this is my last week here! We have a zone conference on Thursday so yay! Next week I will probably be with a new comp and in a new area. Be pumped. Love you! I'm excited for conference!

Vigo Vigo Vigo

I remember my first or second transfer going to young women's  with
Hermana Schriever to tell the girls how wonderful missions were. I
remember Hermana Schriever saying, "it's not easy but it's incredible"
I just kind of looked at her and stumbled to testify myself about how
wonderful the mission was even though at the time it didn't feel so
sincere. I remember my heart kind of aching remembering that the
mission was supposed to be an unforgettable incredible experience that
I'd be looking back at for the rest of my life. I reflected my mission
experience up into that point and really had to ask myself if I was
making the mission as worthwhile as it should be. At the time I didn't
really get, I hadn't made the mission such a remarkable experience, I
guess I just lived day to day instead of making every second count.
Not going to lie, it was a really rough start and looking back I can't
believe I'm still in the same area.
   Vigo really has made a 180° turn around and I think I have too.
This week as I've been serving the members and preparing or friends
for baptism I have an overwhelming feeling of love for them and I just
want to help them with everything. Wendy isn't going to be baptized
this week. She realizes that she doesn't have the faith in Christ that
she would like before being baptized we rescheduled for her to be
baptized on October 22.
   So in the mission there are these things called "Transfers" They
are a six week period of time where you serve in a specific area in
the mission. Right now I'm serving my 4th transfer in my first area,
which makes about 6 months here in Vigo. Missionaries don't usually
serve more than that long in one area, especially their first.
Transfers are in two weeks so I am pretty sure I won't be here for
Wendy's baptism.
   Part of me wants to cry and be sad but the truth is that the
mission isn't for me, it's for her. Although I won't be with her
through all these changes in her life, I've at least had the beautiful
opportunity to take part in her conversion.
   I feel like now I can say "I get it" Why they say the mission is so
fantastic and how it's so incredible. It's not because of where you
go, Vigo is beautiful, it's not about the fun activities on Pdays or
the exotic food you get to eat. It's just so beautiful to take part in
the miraculous process of conversion. I've seen members and
investigators alike come unto Christ to be changed through His atoning
sacrifice. It's truly incredible to help them in this process of
repentance and to witness first hand how the Gospel of Jesus Christ
truly blesses people. I re-read Wendy's record that was started about
two years ago. She went to a girl animate about not going to church at
all to coming to church, praying, going to activities, making friends
and sharing the purest form of testimony. She is incredible. I love
her so so much.
   I know this Gospel is true with all my heart al though it is simple
it can really work miracles. I know that Christ lives and that he
loves each and every one of us.

Week 21... I think...

Hello from La Guarda!
        I am right on the border of Portugal and Spain at a members house,
well in President Rey's house. He's not here right now but his wife
Marcela is and I just love it! It's super cute and I love their
family!
        Well wow. So much has happened and I don't even know where to start....
I love Vigo so much. If I had a choice, I'd probably never leave. But
hey! We aren't talking about that right now, transfers aren't for
another 3 weeks... I think... Anyway, life is so so good! It's not
easy but it's good. These last few weeks Hermana Davis and I have
really been focusing on our weekly goals and been keeping up with them
every day so that we can meet our numbers. It's so incredible and this
experience has strengthened my testimony on goal keeping. You really
get what you work for. We've been more diligent this week than ever
before and our numbers show it.
        This week we met with Ruben and Silvia from Bolivia. They have the
cutest little baby named Alejandro, I will need to take a picture with
them and send it to you later. The sisters of Vigo have been teaching
them for over a year now so Hermana Davis and I decided to start anew.
In the first "new" lesson Ruben bore his testimony of the book of
MOrmon, the spirit was so strong and they both committed to being
baptized. The only problem is that they aren't married yet, so Hermana
Davis might throw a wedding next transfer! I think it sounds
wonderful. They are such a beautiful family and I'm excited to see how
the Gospel blesses their life.
        Erin is from Guatemala. I'm sure I've mentioned him before. He works
on Sunday's but this week we decided to show our faith and invite him
to be baptized. He is the most humble and just man I have ever met. He
lives here with his wife and 2 year old daughter. He has another
daughter in Guatemala and his life has just been really difficult. But
his faith in Christ is so inspiring. He's been reading the LDM and
he's in Mosiah!!! He testified that he believes it to be the word of
God and wants to be baptized. We have been fasting with him that he
may be able to find another Job so he can come to church on Sunday's.
He is so great!
        Then there's my beloved Wendy. Wendy is my BEST friend here in Vigo.
I love her so so much! She is a cute spunky 14 year old who has the
best taste in American music. She's classic. She has a baptism date
set up and is progressing well. She loves coming to church and to
activities and she is doing her best to keep all the commandments. She
should be baptized super soon so I'll keep you posted and I'll take
some pictures this week.
        Well this week has been more than incredible. We worked with members
a LOT. We couldn't have done it without them. For some reason I kinda
just had in the back of my mind that we should only ask the younger
girls who didn't really do anything but hang out with friends to help
us. But this week we had mothers and workers and cute old ladies help
us. They are so grateful every time for the opportunity they have to
share their testimony with others and to invite others to come unto
Christ, even if it means they need to walk an hour out of the way from
their home to get there because they can't afford a bus pass. Their
faith is incredible. I want to be more like them.
        I'm so grateful to serve here in Vigo, I know it's exactly where I
need to be right now and I'm so grateful for the opportunity I've had
to watch Vigo thrive as we've strived more and more to work with the
members. Like I said, you get what you work for. We have people
planning to be baptized, members are starting to bring our
investigators to church and we are working with the ward members to
reach out to less active and part member families. I'm only going to
be here for like 6 months but these people are going to stay here a
lot longer. They're doing the work, we just need to show them how.
        I love you all! I hope your weeks and days and hours and minutes and
seconds are absolutely delightful! Go walk barefoot in the freshly
mowed grass for me!

I LOVE VIGO X A MILLION!

Hello again!
It feels as though it's been FOREVER since I've written... Because I
don't think you can really count last week... Sorry mom...
   Well I failed to mention it last week, but we got a new Ward
Mission Leader!! Whoot Whoot! I loved our last one, but he worked all
over Europe as a Truck driver and was only in Vigo on Sunday's. But
out new Ward mission Leader is Brother Ludin, he's Hellen's husband if
you are keeping up on that. Anyway he is AWESOME. He's only been
called for a week but already he's helped so much! Like I've said
before, we are trying really hard to work more with the members to
have them help us with lessons and things, so now, every Tuesday we
will go on Splits so we can teach more lessons. It's quite the
challenge but we are showing our faith and proving to Heavenly Father
that we are ready to teach more people.
   This week has been the best week as far as lessons go! We used to
just kind of go day to day, and there would be days that all of our
lessons would fail us. But this week we really focused on the
"Key-indicators" Which means that we focused on having lessons taught
with a member present, teaching less actives or recent converts. We
had a goal to teach at least 3 lessons a day (which for us is hard to
do, especially when they don't show up) But we did it! And we missed
our goal for the week by 1 lesson! We are thrilled! Our goal for next
week is a little higher, but we prayed over it and know it's possible.
We are excited and up for the work the Lord has for us.
   This week we taught Wendy again! She is so sweet. But she is
progressing little by little. To help her and her family be more
prepared we have moved her baptism date to the end of the month. We
are working with her family, her mother is inactive and her father
isn't a member. This week we are going to teach her a lesson with the
Elder's Recent Convert Casandra. Her testimony is so strong and she is
so excited to share her testimony with us and Wendy tomorrow, I'll
tell you how it goes! (:
   This week we also taught Vanessa. Vanessa has been going to church
for over a year now with her mom but still doesn't understand the
importance of baptism. We love her so much and just need to be more
patient. She'll be ready, even if that day isn't today.
   This week we also had two new lessons! One of whom has accepted to
be baptized once he gains a testimony of the Gospel, we are meeting
with him again on Thursday. We also have 3 other new lessons this week
so we will see how that goes! #prayers
   We haven't been able to meet with Erin this last week but.... HE"S
READING! He's in Mosiah now and he loves the Book of Mormon! We
haven't been able to meet with him in a long time because of work but
we are meeting with him today! The only thing keeping him from being
baptized is that he works on Sunday's. Hermana Davis and I have fasted
and fasted and prayed for him ever since we met him and from what it
sounds, he has been able to find other work for the week days. We are
meeting with him again this week for sure. I will let you know how
that goes.
   This has by far been the most successful week of the mission. It
took a lot of effort, walking, prayers, courage and chocolate but it
was wonderful. Like when you go on a hike. It's hot and it's hard but
you enjoy every step until you make it to the top. And when you get
there all you can see is how far you've come and the beautiful view.
I know I couldn't have done any of it without the Lord and without
Hermana Davis. They are my best team.  We also couldn't have done it
without the members and the support they have been giving us. I am
just so grateful. And I'm grateful for this day of preparation to wash
my feet and get back on the trail. I'm excited to see what heights we
reach next week.

It's been a good week

 Something that may seen to be a bit different here in Spain, or at
least with the people I've served with and just here in Vigo, we don't
really knock on doors that often. We usually just walk around the
streets to find new friends. But both Hermana Davis and I have felt
prompted that we need to start knocking on doors. I feel we are going
to find more families this way and I look forward to see how the Lord
will bless us as we do as He asks.

        I know this church is true with my whole heart. I am so grateful for
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that
Joseph Smith truly was the prophet of the restoration. Thank you for
all your prayers!

"Tis sweet to sing the matchless love"

Yet again, another PB&J

But this time it's made with the best fresh sweet bread in town!
There's this super cute panaderia like 2 mins away from our piso
called Graniers. It's basically heaven in a bread store. They
literally sell mana and I'm literally eating it right this moment. The
store owners are so sweet and always wave at us. I'm convinced we are
their favorite customers. It's dangerous.
   But hey! They saved our lives this week. Fun fact about Spain,
there are more holidays or "festivos" than days. And they all happen
to land on Monday, which also just happens to be the day we can buy
groceries, and all the stores just happen to be closed when there's
festivo. But no worries, Graniers took care of us.
   I actually really like festivo when it's not on a Monday though,
this week to was on Monday and Tuesday so we were able to meet with a
good amount of people with the time that we had. One of which was
Pedro! I love Pedro! He is my favorite! He was just baptized last May
and we have been slow on re-teaching him all the lessons with summer
and everything. Anyway we retaught him the Law of Chastity.
   Okay back story, Hermana Davis and I have NEVER taught the law of
Chastity before, like at all, either of us. So we were originally
going to teach him the Word of Wisdom again but got a phone call just
as we were finishing lunch, from one of his friends from the Rama. She
felt prompted to tell us to change what we were originally going to
teach him, so that's all we did for language study. We did all we
could to find a priesthood holder to help us with the lesson but they
were all busy. So in a nutshell, we, two 19 year old girls, taught a
56 year old single man the Law of Chastity with our beloved friend
Hilda, who is an 80 something year old sweet heart.
   It actually went really well! The spirit was definitely there
helping us the whole time. We were able to answer all his questions
and explain clearly the importance of following this sacred law.
   Then on Sunday for Relief Society and also for priesthood they
learned about eternal marriage. I'm so grateful for the faith of that
sister to call us to help us to know what we needed to teach him. He
was prepared for the lesson on Sunday and I feel like it might be more
awkward now. It also wasn't until Sunday that Hermana Davis and I
realized how many single women are in the Rama. There are a LOT. And
there's like only 2 single priesthood holders. So yeah, it was good we
taught him that.
   We also got to meet with my other favorite friend! WENDY! Wendy is
incredibly smart. We taught her the rest of The Gospel of Jesus Christ
this week. (So Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost, and Enduring to
the end with Sacrament) She's been praying and reading the Book of
Mormon and Accepted the baptism date of September 10th! I'm too
excited and happy for her! She is so sweet and seems to really be
enjoying Young Womens. She already has a really good friend there. If
you have any friends that don't have the gospel, share it. It's that
simple. Just share your testimony in simple ways and let them know you
care about them. And then when you feel prompted or have reoccurring
thoughts of sharing them with the missionaries. Do it. I wish I shared
the Gospel more before the mission. Even just sharing a piece o your
testimony on social media can make a difference, you never know who is
listening.
   Speaking of social media and sharing the gospel, one of our good
friends Jess had an experience with just that. We had heard that there
was an inactive member and we knew her mom pretty well so we made an
extra effort to find her and meet with her the last week. I wrote in
my last letter that she came to church! Well we met with her again
last week and she told us how a girl she follows on YouTube talked
about how, even though she had everything, she still felt a void in
her life. Jess has a good life, she has a good job, a cute apartment
and her boyfriend loves her, but she explained to us that she feels
that same kind of void, or lack of happiness. I invited her to re-read
the Book of Mormon and to continue to come to church and meet with us.
   Repentance isn't easy but I can promise you that you will feel so
much better if you let go of the things that are holding you back and
if you really truly keep the commandments. I'm grateful everyday here
on the mission for my parents (hi Mom, hi Pops) I'm grateful they
taught me to follow the Savior, to listen to the prophets and read the
scriptures. As I look back on my life all I can be is grateful that
although I am and was never perfect, I can look back with minimal
regrets. If you want to live a life with no regrets, live the gospel.
It works. I promise. No matter where you are in your life, the gospel
can work and will work for you.
   I want to share just one more tender moment with you all that I had
this week. A while ago we went knocking on doors in a member's
apartment building. We met a sweet lady, Maria. When we first met her
she almost shut the door, being a devote Catholic, but we simply
explained that we were there to get to know the people better and to
testify of Christ. We gave her a pass along card with a picture of
Jesus on it and she really liked it. So this week we decided to pass
by again but to bring her a bigger picture of Christ (the one of him
with the red robe, about 5x7)
   She was surprised to see us again. We told her that we had been
thinking about her and that we had a gift for her. Then we pulled out
the picture of Christ and handed it to her with the Book of Mormon.
She was so overwhelmed with gratitude and gave us both a big hug.
(Which is a big deal here in Spain, usually we only get besos)  We
told her that we would love to teach us more about why we are here as
missionaries, and more about the Book of Mormon. She was so happy and
asked us to come again on Tuesday (tomorrow).
   I feel that we as members of the church become so accustomed to the
blessings and miracles of this gospel that we become fearful in
sharing it. I know that in my life, I have been slow in sharing what I
know to be true. I realize I have been blinded by my own pride to
recognize how thirsty the people of this world are for the love and
light of Christ. As we were able to serve this wonderful woman, she
was able to recognize us as representatives of Christ, and as you
serve, the people around you will know as well.
   There's only one life we are given to live. Not two. There is no
separation between church life and real life. It's all real. It's all
one life. Don't divide it. As you do, you limit yourself of the
guidance and blessings God has for you in all aspects of your life.
   I know this church is true with my whole heart. I'm so grateful to
be a missionary to preach it! Thank you all for all the support and
love you show!
   I hope your week is so so super bien! Good luck with school all of
you who are starting up again! Prayers for you!
